An RDF/OWL version of the XBRL variable schema file. The Variable specification provides building blocks for other extension specifications including for XBRL formulae and for assertions about the expected content of XBRL instances. It defines syntax for declaration of two kinds of variables: fact variables that only evaluate to sequences of facts in an XBRL instance and general variables that can evaluate to a broader range of values. The ontology defines variable classes for Filter, Function, Parameter, Resource and related classes and properties.

The ontology is a direct conversion of the XBRL variable schema file (see owl:versionInfo). The purpose is bi-directional for RDF instance files that include an XBRL formula: To read XBRL data files into FinRegOnt and to create XBRL instance data files from the ontology.
